The Circle of Iron Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Championships is a bracketed double elimination competition that is held quarterly. Founded in 2013, it has already been the host to over 180 competitors and over 600 spectators; from 6 different Midwestern states! In recent years the popularity Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has exploded with the increase in popularity of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) events. The Circle of Iron event was founded to fill the void in professionally run events in the Midwest.

The focus of our event is to provide a professionally run tournament that promotes the sport and competition in a fun and friendly atmosphere and is based on our belief that our competitors grow each time they compete.


Circle of Iron BJJ LLC is owned and operated by Rob Luhrs and Joshua Barnes. Avid Brazilian Jiu Jitsu students and competitors, we understand what makes a competition event successful.


Rob Luhrs has been involved in the sport of BJJ for over a decade now and runs a martial arts school in La Vista, Nebraska. He brings to the table years of experience in the sport and the operation of professionally run tournaments.His school and our tournaments are backed by two very respected BJJ Black Belts, including the only BJJ Black Belt in Iowa.

Joshua Barnes is an avid Brazilian Jiu Jitsu student. He brings over a decade of experience in project and event management as well as over five years experience in e-commerce marketing, social marketing, and operations management. All of this to ensure that the Circle of Iron BJJ Championships are one of the most professionally run events in the Midwest!
